Cenrtral Coast Watermans Surf School

What started out as a test shoot with a local model has now turned into an ongoing relationship to support children along the Central Coast. I reached out to big wave surfer, Jack Akrop, when I first moved to San Francisco to setup a skate test shoot. While getting to know him, I found out he had a background in big wave surfing. Fast forward a few years later, Jack and I reconnected to document his surf school he started up. This was a very stripped back production with just myself, a lighting assistant, the kids, and Jack’s staff. After a little back and forth, we set out to Capitola, CA to document Jack and his team give surf lessons. Not only does he walk the kids through various surf skills and techniques, but goes very in depth on ocean dynamics explaining currents and precautions the children need to take when surfing. Additionally, he makes sure every kid goes through a proper warm up that includes stretching and workouts to get the body ready for physical demand surf puts on the body.
